That Moment you get in Trouble for Absurd Reasons

Definitely... well, at least teachers seem quite a bit more reasonable in high school. I don't know whether that's because they think high schoolers are old enough to be worth listening to, whether high schools are just more focused on taking student feedback into account or whether it's because the students start getting taller than the teachers xD

That Moment you get in Trouble for Absurd Reasons

That actually reminds me of an experience I had in primary school... I got into an argument with a classmate, who then walked to a teacher standing 5 metres away, started crying and told her that apparently I'd punched him. The teacher (who was known to be biased towards certain 'suck ups' including this guy) called me over and told me to own up - obviously I reacted angrily and said I didn't punch him, she would've seen if I did since she was standing so nearby. Then she said "You're lying, admit it", I repeated that I wasn't but she continued to call me a liar over and over until my poor 8-year-old self said "fine, I punched him" in exasperation. Then I was made to stand facing a wall for the rest of lunch break. That blatant injustice still gets on my nerves to this day...

    Food stuck in wind pipe

If you're choking but still able to cough, it's likely there's only a partial blockage of the trachea, so trying to cough it up is the first port of call. It only gets really serious when you're unable to cough it up - then someone should first try 5 back slaps, then the Heimlich Manoeuvre (abdominal thrusts) x5, whilst making sure you're supported. If you fall unconscious and stop breathing, tilting the head back and starting chest presses as part of CPR can be successful in clearing the trachea, though not often. A medical professional (if you're lucky to have one at hand) might even have to cut a hole through your neck to allow air into your windpipe, something known as an emergency tracheostomy. So really, you experienced the the first stage of choking - shouldn't have caused any physical harm but it's definitely unpleasant. (Source: I'm a trained lifeguard)

Theory of TWO ‡ Part 1

So a person is just one person but it sounds dramatic to arbitrarily classify a person's reason as a separate entity, when really it's just a function developed by the brain. Without evidence to argue otherwise, your theory is no more credible than Russell's Teapot. Interesting concept, but this is a good example of pseudoscience...

    Is "ladies first" Sexist?

Since when is it sexism to be courteous towards people of the opposite gender? I'm not sure I'm reducing my rights when I allow a person of the opposite gender to walk through a door before I do, lol. IMO this is a bit of a shallow interpretation of what's just intended to be a social nicety, one gender being selfless towards another doesn't diminish anyone's rights... The Internet always seems to find a way to call everything sexist or racist, which kinda devalues the significance of discrimination when it actually does take place.

  11. Thanks for the feedback! On holiday at the moment, but Fen's a noob and thinks that all answers are provided in the article and that you guys should have read it properly despite the fact we encouraged questions at the end (rolls eyes) As a result, I'll answer all of the ones posed in brief myself. A Railgun shot is always a Nothing, it just interacts with different Somethings (e.g. tanks) in different ways. So in your scenario, sometimes Railgun shots go right through both teammates and opponents without having any effect because they fail to interact with the tanks, often due to a badly-aimed shot or one made at an awkward angle. When they do interact, they have an impact effect on both teammates and opponents, but are only programmed to damage opponents - unless Friendly Fire is on, but even then it's still harder to damage teammates due to the auto-aim mechanism only applying to opponents. Yes, they definitely can. In fact, Somethings must always interact with other Somethings since both have matter, and so basically can't avoid some sort of collision interaction if they touch. Like all other shots, the Freeze fire is a Nothing with no matter, which is able to interact with Somethings such as tanks. What's programmed in for weapons like Firebird and Freeze is a 'range' parameter, which reduces the interaction of the weapons with tanks over distance (see 'The Manipulation of Nothings' section). Yep, whilst some of the game is made out of stuff, a lot of features in the game are made out of nothing whatsoever. Weird but interesting xD As for the first part I highlighted, technically the tanks don't quite move as if in space because a form of gravity with effects similar to that on Earth still applies in Tanki, although I get why you made that comparison. Also, I think the second highlighted bit would more accurately say 'lateral force' as you later put it rather than 'weight', although Fen's the equation expert. Apart from those minor technicalities, what you've said is spot on, that's a well-made point there.
  12. Sure, as long as it fulfils the contest criteria. Writing an entry of high quality is much more important than such technicalities, and I'd prefer entries were creative rather than restricted. Sorry for the late reply, on holiday with inconsistent Internet access.
  13. Whilst there's no rule saying it must be, you are writing an entry for Tanki's Finest News Source so it'd probably be a good idea to make it relevant to an aspect of the game or community.

    [story of railgun] Railgun

Good job on the effort, but the above post is downright lying to you - your English, particularly your grammar, needs work. Good luck improving in that respect, practice makes perfect and it might work better to consolidate your general ability in English first before jumping straight into writing articles.
  15. Glad to see that at least one reader's grasped the stuff we came up with xD Well, the answer to that dilemma is that upon impact, the Thunder shot actually remains a Nothing. It's just that its range of interaction with Somethings is programmed in to be greater than 0, unlike other shots such as a Railgun shot which only interacts with the Something it hits directly. This allows the Thunder shot to interact with and damage multiple tanks. How do we know the Thunder shot's still a Nothing upon impact? Because you can actually drive your tank through the explosion without physically colliding with or being stopped by it, like Nothings such as drop boxes/foliage and unlike what would happen if you drove into Something with solid matter such as a wall. So whilst both Somethings and Nothings can interact with your tank, Nothings don't act as physical barriers since they don't have any matter whereas Somethings do.
  16. An amusing excerpt from our discussion whilst developing this article... The mindreading skills though xD
  17. ^anyone who noticed this should proceed to spam fen in order to claim the chicken the more you spam him the more chicken you'll get trust me it's legit
  18. Yep, it's definitely not the best The Dictator we've put out and it was delayed from last issue, hence the out-of-date pieces - but the fact that we're publishing more regularly now should hopefully prevent that problem in the future. Thanks for your feedback!

You must be made out of copper and tellurium, because you're CuTe. ...I have actually made use of that line before, there's nothing more charming than a witty scientific reference xD

[Issue 38] Can you Contribute to Tanki's Finest News Source? Returns!

Do you think you can write a spoof piece, something which uses satire and sarcasm to make readers laugh? If so, you're in the right place! The team at The Dictator (Tanki's Finest News Source, I'll have you know) is looking for talented and budding columnists to contribute towards its aim of total domination of the Press section. All you have to do is the following: - Write a short 'news' piece which should NOT be serious at all - use satire if you can, try to make it humorous! Make sure you use a good headline! You can base it around a real event or make it up completely - it's up to you! - A good length would be anywhere between 150 and 300 words, around 200 might be best - your entry can be longer or shorter if you feel that'd be more effective, though that could mark your entry down. - Please note that if you post yours soon after the release of this issue, you may get "extra points" for originality, since using other people's ideas will severely decrease your likeliness of winning. So get writing! Check these articles from the series for examples: July 2014 August 2014 September 2014 October 2014 November 2014 January 2015 February 2015 March 2015 August 2015 Here's just one example, taken from the very first topic: It might also be a good idea to check the results topic of the previous time this contest was held, when no entry won the top prize. That's important to note - if we at The Dictator feel that there aren't any excellent entries, we won't award 1st Place! That should provide more than enough info for you to get going. But what are the prizes, you ask? What's so good about that top prize? Well, you might find them more interesting than normal... 1st Place: - 30,000 crystals - Your entry will be published in 'The Dictator' AND - You will be asked if you wish to become a 'columnist' for the 'The Dictator' series, where you may write a similar short piece each month; and if it's of a high enough quality, it will be published in 'The Dictator' and a 5,000 crystal salary awarded. In other words, we'll offer you a contract! 2nd Place: - 20,000 crystals - Your entry will be published in 'The Dictator'. 3rd Place: - 10,000 crystals - Your entry will be published in 'The Dictator'. Consolation prizes of 5,000 crystals may be awarded to any other entries worthy of note. The deadline for entries is the end of August 28th. Good luck!
  21. Hmm... Multiple songs I guess, but probably a mixture of favourite songs (e.g. Paradise by Coldplay) and songs which happen to hold particular significance to me (e.g. Sail by AWOLNATION). ew...
