    Vulcan Bugged: Sudden Overheating

OK this has happened at least three and possibly four times in the past week, give or take a day. It is repeatable but does not happen too often. I use a Wasp / Viking with the Fire/Railgun/Thunder module What happens is I start to fire and within one second or less my hull is glowing a medium red. It is not the deepest shade of beet red but it will take several seconds to coll down doing substantial damage. I am 100% certain this is not a case of me forgetting how long I have been shooting. In every case it I have had reason to stop shooting after a very brief burst of bullets. Maybe the target blew up, or moved behind cover ... I cannot say I recall why I stopped in each case. It was not even close to the ~5 seconds or so I am allowed, yet my tank was already reddish. If it has happened in other situations I do not know. But it happened again tonight for the 3rd or 4th time. And it is not anything I've seen before the last week.

    Let's Discuss Smoky!

Yes in previous versions of Smoky I used to trade shots un a much wider range of situations. Now with my crit hits gone for the +impact alteration those are now the times I am finding cover and letting team mates slug it out, I do still shoot at long range to throw off an enemy fighting a team mate. or to try to knock him off a bridge. But I do not trade shots slugging away.

    Let's Discuss Vulcan!

You are right about overheating. That is why the W/V combo typically avoids overheating. When I do overheat it is when there are several targets in one spot and its worth it even if i blow up. W.V means a lot of fire move fire from new spot. Also when I am not firing I can turn my hull very fadt then start firing at the new angle, I am not saying W/V is invincible at close rage. I'm saying it can more than hold its own when mixing it up. Folks have to understand it does tke a differnt driving approach. I was all fingers at it at first when I would change over from a more conventional combo. But once you get teh hang of it the combo is surprisingly effective. Yeah as I said I've heard all those rationalizations and stuff before on the forum but I will believe my own gaming experiences instead. As for non-drug battles those do not exist for me so what do I care about them? I play my daily missions and those are all drug battles. So I have no idea how the combo would do but I have no reason to think it would do poorly against other non-drugged tanks. DA/DD cancels out. I'd miss the speedup but no one else would have them either.

    Let's Discuss Vulcan!

As you can see from all the comments you sparked, there is a lot of "conventional wisdom" in Tanki that almost everyone believes but isn't actually true. Even the devs believe Vulcan must be used at long range with a brick on the spacebar. But who are you going to believe? A bunch of words on a forum page or your own experience? I use Wasp/Vulcan and at times I find myself wondering if there is any stronger combo in the game. When you are clicking man it is just a total rush. "Can't fight at close range" OMG ROFL! I've gone total Matrix at times in the middle of an enemy pack. It is just so fun. If the darn thing didn't tip over so often my K/d would probably be a full point higher. That being said I will admit you need eyes in the back of your head. I use Viking with my Smoky so I know what you mean about it being a good dancer at close range. I've never used it with Vulcan though. But I can see what you mean. And I bet you do not tip over as much. :) Stick with it. Don't listen to anyone tell you differently. I agree. I will hose down people at long reange at times but I do most of my work up close. Well actually I start close and I often speed away from them when hosing them down. But that has a lot to do with keeping my Wasp upright with all the recoil effect. I have an m3 Vulcan on an m2 Wasp and i really notice the effect from the light weight. As I was adding MU steps to my brands new m2 Vulcan I noticed the recoil getting worse and worse with each step. Now at MU_10 the recoil means driving and shooting this combo leaves you always on the edge of control. But once you get the hang of it it is very fun. As you can see from a recent post I have even done full 360 circle strafes of a foe with the Vulcan. Most players simply are not used to reacting against this. :)

    Let's Discuss Smoky!

In no particular order the list includes 1) Smoky 2) Thunder 3) Rico 4) Twins 5) Shaft 6) Railgun 7) Striker 8) Magnum 9) Isida 10) Firebird 11) Hammer 12) Vulcan 13) Freeze

    Let's Discuss Shaft!

Ah. a Dick reference. Very very clever. About what I'd expect from a whiner. BTW, good luck getting me to shut up. Ask around.

    Let's Discuss Shaft!

For a pathetic comment this one will do.

    Let's Discuss Smoky!

Smoky can also beat any turret 1:1 so that seems about right. I do use assault ammo (+impact) nearly 100% of the time now. Based on what I see shot back at me not many Smoky users use it. Smoky seems OK as was said it is competitive. What irks me is some turrets (I am looking at you Rico) have too many tools in their toolkit compared to Smoky. Thank God most Rico users still do not turn their turret.

    Let's Discuss Magnum!

No one is arguing that magnum can use higher ground to massive advantage. My point was: Magnum is abused (to use your word) WITHOUT the need for higher ground. Two ideas - both can be true at the same time. Noise is hardly the only map where Magnums force the old quit-and-find-a-fun-scenario-instead. when one team has a Magnum hidden away in a corner the other team is faces with two choices: (1) Keep focused on CTF or CP even though the Magnum will be damaging and destroying your team while you try to fight. (2) Drop the focus on CTF of CP and focus instead on killing the Magnum. When this happens the Magnum team has already won because the enemy is no longer working for victory points. No other turret dominates a map like this.THIS is why it is a and design. Not one existing map was designed with an indirect fire weapon in mind. So what did Tanki do? The added a indirect fire weapon with the biggest single shot damage in the game. Incredibly stupid. They could have added a faster shooting lighter hitting harassment weapon. instead they added the main battery from a WW2 battleship. SMH.

    Let's Discuss Viking!

Viking seems to work well with Smoky and assault ammo. I like busting into defensive positions for that speed helps. Most players cannot track theu turret fast enough against viking speed at close range. Not when they are getting rocked every 1.5 seconds.

    Let's Discuss Isida!

Let's rock then pildrim. I'll "no skill" you into the stone age.
  12. My suggestion would be a delay like the Vulcan 'spin=up' delay. When the Magnum user presses space bar the spin-up period begins, say 0.5 to 1.0 seconds delay, and only then can the magnum actually fire. This would prevent the tap-space-bar-over-and-over-until-a-shell-falls-out-your-barrel crap. That would indeed put Magnum at a disadvatnage when faced with close opponents.
  13. LittleWillie

    Let's Discuss Isida!

I consider being directly behind my foe with my Smoky muzzle about 10cm from the foes turret to be a very effective range. Rarely miss. If I ambush you from behind with my Smoky I will bounce your tank around like a Smurf in a paint shaker. If I ambush you from behind with my Isida you ability to maneuver is unaffected. In either case you die but my Smoky tank probably is not scratched. The Isida might be. To return to the point of the thread. The Isida design is good as it is right now after about 4 failed tries. Do not redesign the concept again please. Now on the other hand. when the next big re-balancing tweak comes along maybe Isida will get some parameter tweaks. Parameter tweaks OK, new design concept not OK. And no turret or hull shoild be fiddled with until the 7-Overdrive system has been running for a good long while. That is going to change everything.

    Let's Discuss Magnum!

You don't need higher ground to do that. Just drive around enemies woodperckering your spacebar. Abused? Overpowered? That's just semantics. The design is bad. The turret was advertised as a long shooter that had no hope at short range. Which is Bullshyte. just dribble a shell out teh barrel and the vast splash radius does the rest. It's a punk weapon: no driving skill no aiming skill needed. Just the ability to play video golf. It's the same mechanism most golf games use. Don't give the the BS it is so damn hard to use. If there has to be an indirect fire weapon in TO it should be a 122mm mortar not a 16" battleship cannon.

    Yes.

    Let's Discuss Striker!

I played my striker today after a few week sof leaving it alo0ne. I totally forgot there was a salvoe mode until I accidently left the spacbar pressed for a second. Oh yeahhhhh! LOL

    Let's Discuss Isida!

Get better at playing and understanding Tanki. I do not find Isidas unkillable like you do. Why? Because I play well and you do not. You are most likely one of those players with little battlefiled awareness.. Those are teh people I kill in my Isida. Tankers that see the battlefield see the isida in time to shoot the Isida. That would seem to not include you. So you get killed. So get better. I have read many many comments from you and I am unimpressed. Look at your leave battle fine idea. That's kill the game off because you have not been able to suss out how to fight Isidas. So much for your biased crap.
  18. You are describing a significant part of the root case problem in this game. The experience growth progression and the in-game cost structure are both broken. Pace pf progress is measured by time required to reach the next milestone and the benefit earned. By this measure the pace of progress in Tanki is glacial. But you asked why this broken system continues to exist. My guess is Tanki Company is afraid they'd lose most of their customers if they what it'd take to fix all that.

^^^ I hadnt thought of that ^^^ Actually most of the time I figure R is doing high snark. Byt I'm never 100% on that.

    Let's Discuss Isida!

Yes it is astounding how many high ranked players do not know how to best work with an isida. But some really do. Had a titan/thunder guy on Red Dawn. Planed a couple times at the enemy flag. He had great situation awareness. And titans are so nice to hide behind.
  21. And the m3 alterations. And the zero alterations of any type for Striker/Magnum. And the useless/counterproductive alterations for Vulcan, Isiada et al compared to the big buff alts for Rico, Twins, ey al. And the unfinished $36 dollar rip-off clan system. Yeah Tanki devs do what they say. The problem is, they do half-bassed work on what they say.

    Let's Discuss Vulcan!

Achieved the full circle-strafe 360 (and a bit more) today with the Vulcan. Heh he didn't see that coming.

    Let's Discuss Striker!

Encountered several the past two days. One on a Hotrnet today was quite good hitting with the single shots reliably. He was quite tough.

    Let's Discuss Magnum!

Another RIDDLER post which boils down to: I want the turrets and hulls I use to be stronger than all the stuff I do not personally use. Snark or honest opinion?
