Patch Update #441 - Changes to Isida, Hammer and Shaft, and other changes
LittleWillie replied to theFiringHand in News Archive
No, actually lead pellets will deform and the concrete wall will be cratered and pock-marked. Such deformation and cratering uses up the kinetic energy in the pellets. Pellets also lose speed to wind resistance faster than the same mass in one bullet. If Tanki wants stuff to bounce off walls let stuff bounce off walls. But it ain't realistic. :) -
Why the Heel was the Woman's Day sale not announced in the VLOG? I just wasted ~70,000 Crystals because Tanki cannot be bothered to inform their players of vital planning information. That would seem to be the VLOG's function. Who the hell makes decisions in that company? Does it ever cross your minds that happy customers are more apt to do business with you? That people you just ignore will ignore you too when it comes time to do a little shopping? I said it before but I guess I have to keep saying it. Tanki's attitute of manipulation towards its costomers has caused me to set my policy in response: No more financial support for Tanki in the future.
-
Except I just bought a Kit last night. After I wake up I learn hey there will be a major sale tomorrow. Tanki goe out of its way to anger the people they hope will support the game with funding. All I can do to push back against this crap is make a point that Tanki's policies force my policy of refusal to spend money any more.

So twelve hours ago I did not kjnow about this sale. So I bought the Atlas kit. Now i learn that if I had waited a couple days, I would have saved about 70,000 Crystals. But I wasted them, because Tanki cannot be bothered to tell us about an upcoming sale until it is on our doorstep. How about mentioning this in the VLOG? Oh noooo... why use that to communicate stuff? Just last week I left an irate posting about how Tanki seems to go out of their way to provoke their customers. This week they rub it in in spades. All I an say is keep repeating that these occurrences just keep coming and that is why I refuse to support Tanki any more with real money. I want to support Tanki but not when they go out of their way to dis-satisfy their customers. Do you guys ever learn? 70,000 Cr wasted. Thanks Tanki. For crying out loud!

Patch Update #441 - Changes to Isida, Hammer and Shaft, and other changes
LittleWillie replied to theFiringHand in News Archive
Smoky is a good turret still. But it's sort of Jack-of-all-trades master of none so it is not overly popular. You have to know Smoky's advantage over the enemy combo. And you have to aim well while you are moving. -
Well I have to take back my first impression that the gyro nerf ended the days of Wasp / Vulcan. I had the most amazing weekend. I guess the adrenaline level was exceptional. :) Halfway through Saturday I realized I was using virtually no Supplies. So i stopped using them the rest of the weekend. I ran into tougher fights Sunday, but still bit more than I got bit. You really have to drive the combo hard. You gotta make the hull dance while spinning the turrets as fast as you can then slamming both still when you get on target. OR keeps flying at top sped while still streaming bullets. And always worry about facing for recoil / impact implications. To my surprise with Wasp I do actually find myself rocking my hull. You can ding the foe by a couple hundred ... just a way to harass. It is not easy and you WILL die but your foes will be aware of your presence in the meantime. Was great fun. But that gyro change overall that was still a nerf. I still miss more, just not as much as at first.

Patch Update #441 - Changes to Isida, Hammer and Shaft, and other changes
LittleWillie replied to theFiringHand in News Archive
What you posted sparked me thinking a bit more down those lines. My main problem with the Isida changes come down to sustainability and the change to the firing arc. I think ypu original idea is good. Change the attack consumption to give 7 seconds firing time. I dont like the arc change but ... Tanki should change the m1 alteration to something better. When they do that they can return the arc to 20 degrees or at least give it back some of the lost arc. The m2 alteration MIGHT be viable with a 7 second attack time. Edit: Response to I_A_W's comments on Shafts. The proble, is there are many maps where shafts do not have to sneak and hide. They keep their beams up all the time. There's a big implication to "let that beam touch you and you die" cpm[ared with "pop a DA and you can survive to reach that next bit of cover" Simple example: Siege. Thrre are all sorts of places where a Shaft can cover the plateau where the spawn point exists for one team. As soon as you solidify you die. The shaft might not see you but he's sees somoene on your team to shoot. So one team is scrambling just to survive the spawn, while the other team caps flags or points. A less dramatic example is Sepherov. It is common for a shaft laser to stretch across the map into the enemy spawn area. When the beam means "instant death" this can cut the enemy team in two. It supresses that team's ability to organize, If that beam means "arrive beat up but alive" then maybe there's an allied Isida to get you ready for the next attack. Shafts should have this role but they cannot become too dominant in it. I'm just saying the change should be watched closely. -
Kits in the Shop depend on your rank. Your choices change only when your rank changes. The Wiki page on Product Kits shows the lowest and highest ranks for each kit.

Sorry again for the petulance above but i just hope to communicate a different perspective. * I like spending money to support a game if I feel they give me value. * But how to rate value its the eternal question. Part of that is emotional to be sure. * Aside from drugs (topic all its own) I rate tanki quite good in terms of pay to win. Paints and gold boxes ... good stuff. * Premium Passes .. level up faster for those who want to. Earn a bit more in the arena. Good value for the money. * Direct kit buy. If you are a buyer and know what kit you want here's your best shopping option. * Direct Crystal Buy .. For everything else a buyer wants. Often good for the part-time buyer. * If you are not a buyer you outfit yourself in the Garage. Fair enough. My point is, there are reasons to buy everything in the Shop, and in the Garage. Many shoppers means many ways of shopping. Do not try to channel their choices. try to facilitate their choices. It might boost revenue or then again it might not. But there ya go.

OK Precious we're paying attention to you. Who's a big boy? Yes you are. Yes you are!

I just want Tanki to know their "forced shortage" policies have cost them another sale. Once upon a time kits were available only in the Garage. A given kit would be available for one week, then for the next two it would not. So at any given time roughly one-third of all kits wer available. Then kits became available in the Shop. At the same the number of kits available in the shop went down dramatically. Now it take 4-6 weeks for a kit to return to the Garage. Clearly Tanki is trying to force players to buy kits in the Shop by making them scarce in the Garage. Well I don't like being manipulated. So my reaction is to buy nothing - at all. I have an account that for months I've worked towards the m2 Titan/Thunder.kit. But I also have a Viking/Smoky account. Nowadays Thunder and Smoky are so similar ... and I actually like Striker. Well great! There is a m2 Striker/Titan kit. ... In the Shop only All Striker kits are Shop-only. Striker is already a most unpopular turret. The common opinion? "Striker sucks!" You don't see many Strikers these days. So does Tanki think the restricting all Striker kits to the Shop is going to increase their use? No, this policy makes a rare turret more rare. This policy of forced shortages is costing Tamki money. Consider what would happen if you could rely on buying a Kit in the Garage when you wanted to buy a kit. I'll use myself for an example. My account is nearing the rank-up I need to unlock the kit. It's taken me months to get here. This is the perfect time to buy a Premium Pass. I will rank up faster and I'll earn some more Crystals. Maybe there's a sale like the holiday or PayPal package that gives the PP and some Crystals. New gear also means more MU steps and that costs too... Well then I would make a moderate purchase to get me over the hump. I could plan my actions. No, I am not going to spend $40 or $70 on a kit, but I would be willing to spend $10 to make things a little easier and to give support to the company. But I won't do that when I cannot plan. Or when the Striker kit I really want cannot be bought in the garage at all. In short, I will not be manipulated. Tank is trying to force me to make a big purchase. They will fail and in failing they cost themselves moderate purchases. So I either buy a different kit Smoky, Thunder, or Twins to go with my m2 Titan. The I eitehr forget about Striker. Or I buy Striker m2 when it unlocks after many more tens of thousands of exp points gained. Does that make me a happy customer? It does not. Does an unhappy customer spend more than a satisfied customer? No. Tanki is like a store with an insane assumption that by offering empty shelves they will make more money.

Thanks Mafioso I did not know that. But as I said it is a common plot type. As far as "hard to believe" ... Gulliver's Travels is hard to believe too but centuries later they're making movies based on it. We're after fun not realism. :) Yeah also them advertising billboards on the battlefield. I don't think there were many billboards littering the battlefields of Bialystok/Minsk, Stalingrad, or Kursk. ^_^ I have errands to run but I will ;layer on some detail to try to communicate my ideas a little more clearly.

Patch Update #441 - Changes to Isida, Hammer and Shaft, and other changes
LittleWillie replied to theFiringHand in News Archive
Carlo, sorry but I don't think I like a single one of those ideas. Especially the make the target tank glow idea. The beams have different colors. Why must that be dumbed down? -
The Nutmeg of Consolation by Patrick O'Brien, novel #14 in the Aubrey-Maturin series. (Book one was Master and Commander ,,, there was a movie by that name based on the series.)
-
Yep ... so wouldn't it be nice to offer recognition to players who don't rely so much on the credit cards? That's what this suggestion attempts to do.
-
And it was pretty vanilla. Wish I had captured my "Seven Dead in Seventeen Seconds" spree using the 10% Isida. Word.
-
Earlier I complained on this forum that Tanki did not address connectivity issues in the VLOG. So now that they did do a nice presenatation on critical errors it is my time to thank them for that. Well done Tanki.

If you don't like the "bloodsport" backstory then others are possible. For examle we are in a world where nations fight their wars in highly formalized battle between their professional armies. Instead of "sponsorship" status symbols you'd have "medals". If a militry theme is more satisfying so be it. The example backstory itself is not a reason to implement or not implement the idea. The idea would be a failure if it applied to only one of the four modes. As for simplicity this system is no more complicated than today's game. Instead of the word "rating" the word "Fame" would be used. But instead of having no meaning at all other than to generate a number, this function would be given a use in Tanki. Right now the "Rating" is generated. Do you know the math behind it? Do you find yourself in battle deciding to shoot or not shoot because of implications to your "Rating"? I don't. I don't see how that changes with the word "Fame" used instead. In neither case do the players know the exact formula .. they just see the results. The same goes for battle funds. I do not know during battle how many Crystals I'll have until the battle is over. Nothing would change about that. (And as for simplicity Tanki is actually quite complex. It has damage that varies across the shooting range but that is also distributed over a bell curve. And there are quirks like Smoky's critical shot that has a 20% chance of landing which goes up to 40^ then 60% until you do land one then it goes to zero percent for two shots then back to 20% and yeah that's not so simple really is it? Yet a 12 year old can grab a smoky and start shooting enemies in 2 minutes and she's having fun.) Simplicity is not a a make-or-break either, iMO, because the math is done invisibly to the player. Sure... some players will like this more than others. Same goes for any change. The key is if the Tanki Company thinks a change will add popularity over the long haul.

I've seen them both. I've also had a laser stick to me, the target, and it was still there after I got blown up. Hard t be sneaky with a blue beam reaching skyward anywhere you go. But it's been awhile sice Ive' seen that. As for the inabiliuty to do anything when entering battle I've found this work-around. Click the server button then click on the screen to close the drop-down server list. You can use your tank now. Acually any button near the server will do the trick it isjust the server one is quickest.

This Vulcan nerf of course happened right as I was on the verge of ranking to @LT and thus unlocking the m2. Fortunately it did not come right after I bought the m2 so I had time to think about it and evaluate. After considering the aletrnatives I decided to go with the m2 aftr all. There just wasn't another turret I liked around that rank. And I thught the m2 version might make up for the nerf. So I did it and, of course, things are better. I'm learning different driving techniques ..some of the lost accuracy has returned with practice. Oddly enough I find I can circle strafe a heavy hull / vulcan .. didn't expect that. So I guess I am going to be using this combo still. I still feel the change is a nerf and I still despise the loss of vertical reach. And both alterations available for it need to be scrapped for something useful.

Thank you very much emrakul! I need to decide by the end of this week if "I want to kick it to rank up in order to buy the Atlas kit. I really want to go Striker/Titan but that kit is for Shop Dollars only. (As if!) So the kit I buy will probably come down to which one has the ore useful Module. So thank you for this great help.
-
Thank you one both counts! :D I posted in that thread and lnked back to this one.

Please read the last couple pages of this thread. They are filled with requests like this one. The Wiki for product kits needs work ASAP. When Striker turret was added Wiki was changed. Kits now just show a picture of the tank. There is no longer a lit of the 4 components. You can tell the turret and hull from looking at it. But unless you have memorized each and every Paint color and price you will have a tedious tedious tedious time trying to find out what Paint is included and how much of the cost is (IMO) wasted on this component. And as for which Module comes with it? ? ? It is impossible to know now. Unless you go to the garage and write down each and every kit composition on your own time. Either list the info on the Kits page or put in hotlinks for each kit type to link to a new page containing that info.

I am certain the early readers are not envisioning this they way I mean. Let me try to illustrate by way of example. under my proposal player who drug a lot would gain in exp faster than anyone else - just like they do now. Druggers would earn more Crystals that non-duggers ... just as they do now. BUT non-druggers would have hope too. The difference would be less stark. Right now druggers win games over no druggers. End of story. Since the rewad system today is so crude and inflexible druggers win the rewards too. If that does not change nothing changes. Yes I agree drugs could be nay should be re-designed. But let's get serious here. If you think giving non-druggers a way to earn recognition will enrage drug-users I suggest that re-designing drugs is going to piss them off a thousand time more. ------ OK so let's try to bring this idea to life through the use of examples: Today: Poly CP. Tank slaughterhouse. Spawn shoot as many enemies as possible, die, re-spawn. The battle fund goes up fast because exploding tanks feed the fund. The sense of repetition is high. Games are dull. But the payout is high so players do it even if they hate it. Poly CP & Fame: Tank slaughterhouse. Spawn shoot as many enemies as possible, die, re-spawn. The battle fund goes up fast because exploding tanks feed the fund. But it's an over-used map/mode to the Fame implications are low. The battle fund payouts at the end of the day are almost identical to today. Players who like this sort of this still get to play the way they want. But players who hate it are not forced to do it. ----- Kungur, Brest, Barda Today These maps and others are reasonable examples of the happy medium. There's room to maneuver. There's room to hide. There are approach alleys for long-range weapons to dominate. There are defensive positions that the short-range shock troops can hold or assault. But the payouts are much lower than the slaughterhouses even if you win. If winning seems unlikely for your side the smart players just leave the game. And the side with the druggers ... wins. Kungur, Brest, Barda & Fame: Everything about maneuver, hiding and so forth remains valid. The team that has the most druggers still wins. The druggers still get their exp and Crystals ---- but maybe even they'd more than they do today. Because (for example purposes) these "average" scenarios will have a new revenue stream feeding the Battle Fund - the Fame-based contributions. And in these scenarios the other team might stick around to fight ... that's more kills and more flags capped and points toggled. Even if some do leave the other side the lopsided matchup starts to drive the Fame-based contribution to the Battle Fund even more. The Druggies might get a slimmer slice of a bigger pie but theystill get a lot of pie. The now losing side members that fought hard also get pie. This does not end Grindhouse games. But it makes the difference between grindhouse games and "average" games closer. ----- Dusseldorf, Farm, Lost Temple Today: Where are they? These and countless other maps are almost never seen since the introduction of the Battle Button. Go head and start a game in the Pro section. Watch a total of 4 players show up on Dussedorf, No one else shows up because everyone knows that game will be dull the payout wouldn't buy a single Mine even on sale. Futility indeed. Dusseldorf, Farm, Lost Temple & Fame: Let's say the same 4 people show up. But this is a rare map so the Fame component to the Battle Fund is much higher than the contribution from the old system. Yeah they payout will be pretty low still with only 4 players ... but it will but be enough to buy a mine or three even at full price. And these four layers will get a shot of Fame to boot. But wait ... if that is true maybe just maybe more than 4 players show up. "There's a Dusseldorf map open today? Awlriiight I need a change of pace. And Jim has been giving me a hard time about how famous he is. Dusseldorf here I come". Even so who wins that Dusseldorf game? The druggers win it. ============== Druggers win all the time now and they'll win all the time with Fame. Druggers will still earn Crystals. But the player who druggs 100% of the time will just not be as famous as the drugger who drugs the 40% of the time when it mattes most. Druggers tell me drugging takes a lot of skill because "cooldown management". Well I don't honestly buy that but I will take them at their word. Knowing how to drug and still get famous would be an actual test of skill and judgment. And that is what druggers want too, right? Games exist because humans like to put skill against skill. So look at this proposal as a way fot the skilled drugger and the skilled non-drugger both to prove their skills. And some people will enjoy having a high Fame index even if they rank up slower than others. What is wrong with that? Heck maybe more peole would actually stick around to play Tanki if it rewarded a greater variety of players. So please. I know this is a big change and it takes considerable imagination to cast aside habits ingrained under the current system All I ask is the readers try. Thank you for reading all this.
