[Special Review] New Alterations and Turret Adjustments: Patch #439
LittleWillie replied to Thekillerpenguin in Newspaper Archive
Exactly. Fighting at weak ranges is inefficient for any weapon. It's good for getting the enemy to duck for cover. It's good to fool the enemy to thinking you are shooting from point A while you zoom over to point B instead. But only noobs seek to do all their fighting at extreme range. Had a massacre CP game yesterday when are vulcan / heavy hull sat at teh very back of the map with a brick on his spacebar, and worse and Isida doing nothing else but healing him. We got creamed because we had two of our team doing essentially nothing. They refused to move up. So playeth the noobs. -

Like hell I do not use Vulcan. Here;s news... one player can run more than one account. READ IT AND WEEP. -
Beware the author of the review will delete you r post if he think his fee fees are hurrt. Just in case he deletes my reply I am posting it here too. RANTING?!?!?!?!?! I made informed and knowledgeable comments. DO NOT USE IT [Vulcan] MYSELF?!?!??!?! You lying so and so. Click the link. Put my post back and let other judge. I dare you. If you cannot stand the heat don't enter the kitchen. If you are going to delete posts the disagree with you then you have no business writing reviews. ---edit--- SURE ENOUGH HE DELETED MY RESPONSE TOO. &CensorshipIsForTheWeakMinded

It's a nerf and the lighter the hull you use the more it was nerfed. Now with my smoky/viking any Vulcan I see is dead. I can keep 60% his shots off me even if he is on a Mammoth and much more on lighter hulls. Then I circle strafe him to death while the still to slow turret cannot spin to hit me. I spawned next to a vulcan on amedim hull he has DD up as I was spwaning. I killed him took not a point of damage. I didn't pop a single supply.

[Special Review] New Alterations and Turret Adjustments: Patch #439

If you think changes should make weapons "Less noobish" then you should hate this update. A boost to "weak" damage rewards those players who sit at the back of the map and never move. Vulcan owners, prepare your bricks! -
[Special Review] New Alterations and Turret Adjustments: Patch #439

I agree entirely as a daily Vulcan user (on Wasp). The overall effect is a dramatic nerf. And the lighter the hull you use the more the nerf effect. ALSO the author wrote: "Both angles of auto-aim were reduced by 4 degrees, and there was talk that it would severely impair Vulcan's ability as a defender on maps such as Noise, as well as reducing its effectiveness in maps such as Polygon, since the downwards auto-aim was critical for its success. However, after repeated testing Vulcan appears to still perform most of its original roles " I remember the change as a loss of 4% in the vertical aim with the downward aim left the same. Though perhaps that is due once again to unclear writing by Tanki. At any rate this review is nonsense. The loss of vertical arc is indeed a significant loss of tactical capability. THAT IS WHY IT WAS DONE. I hate these sort of reviews that pretend a change is not really a change at all! ALSO "Weak Damage is now increased from 25-50%. This means Vulcan performs much better at medium-long range, and this boost aids it in the Deathmatch format, allowing it to cut down approaching enemies before they get too close for comfort." Written to sound like someone who never uses Vulcan. or who does not understand Tanki's definitions. Weak damage does nothing to help at "medium" range. It halps only at extreme ranges. And I do not know many DM situations where a fire tank charges all the way across Kungur to attack that Vulcan on the other side of the map. It will attack someone close tpo it. What tis weak damage boost does is rewards teh Vulcan player who (in the words of the author)... "simply being to hold the spacebar, rotate the turret slightly and watch as the stream of bullets connects with an enemy." According to the author that is a Bad Thing. But he praises the change that makes this much more likely. Bottom line this last update sux. This change nerfed the vulcan, nerfed vulcan/light hulls, but bootst heavy hulls sitting in one with a brick on the spacebar until they glow cherry-red hot. IOW vulcan has been made more noobish. Accrding to the VLOG, that is supposed to be a Bad Thing. But Tanki did it anyway. -
I guess you don't read so good. I've said all along we don't have comprehensive data. I said from the start I was offering one data point. You asked me where I got that but I had said where I got in in my OP. I supplied the context. So your lecture is pretty weird. Here's the point: All sorts of people come onto the forum and say "If Tanki puts this in thousand of people will quit and Tanki will lose money." That might be right. What also might be right is that more people like the new system than dislike it. It might improve business. Or the player community might react with a big shrug. The experimental system might turn out to be no better than Smart Cooldowns. What is true in internet life - be it games, politics, or gossip - is people with a gripe post much more often than people who are satisfied. Tanki knows all this and now so do you. With that I'm done.

Titan / Smoky is pretty damn tough. :)

"Once again" what? When before did I post data you challenged? As for where I got those numbers, if you have a browser you might see a banner atop this page that has words like "Game" "Forum", "Wiki" and other. If you click on "Game" you will go to a page from which you can log onto the game. If you pause a moment you might see something like this, which I just Cut and Pasted from that page: Players online: 4 125 At the time in question, that number was larger than 75,000. I personally have not seen a higher number not even during Christmas .I don't think I can make it simpler than that. Tanki tracks these number so they will know how much interest this experiment generated. You and I do not.

Canada_Wins: If Tanki conclude they will retain eleven new players for every ten players that quit, expect them to make the change permanent. OTOH if they conclude the other way around, the experiment is dead. Based on Hazel-Rah's comments it sounds unlikely the experiment will be made permanent. My guess or perhaps my hopes are that Tanki looks at this experiment to devise an even better way to change the cooldown system. then they can run an experiment on that. But as I said way back at the start of this experiment, any cooldown system is just a band-aid on the over-powered nature of the current drug system. As for SNIPERHITMAN's spam, I've already answered tha tpost.

If you are bored it is time to find a new game. [shrug]

Many many many players have come here and told us that thousands of players will quit Tanii if the experiment becomes the normal system. I have two things to say. (1) These are empty threats. You can say you will leave Tanki but you cannot speak for anyone else. You do not know what thousands of stragers will do. Of course you might turn out to be correct in your guess, but let's all understand that is just a guess. (2) Sunday morning about 1am USA time I happened to see the number of players in the game. It was 75,000+ I have never seen more than about 65,000 players before and that during the big Christmas celebrations. Has this drug experiment sparked more interest in Tanki than anything else since Modules were separated from Paints? Tanki collects the data. They'll see. But just maybe these threats from the big druggers will prove to be 100% untrue in reverse. Might Tanki increase their player base by making it more interesting to the majority? Hmmmmmmm.

PERHAPS THE BEST POST IN THE THREAD! I salute you Sir. That happens under the current system all the time too. The experiment this weekend is to test if this sort of thing happens more often or less often with the change. If you "can't do anything about it" doesn't that tell you that drug use is the most important factor in the game much more important than any amuont of skill you have in playing? Do you like having all your ability made pointless by drugs? Don't you think a better system is possible? No, this means you have not learned effective strategies in the new system. Don't feel bad there's no way the player base will learn to use the experimental system to best advantage in the first few hours. Agreed a billion times over about the lag! What nonsense. Anyone who can see and add knows this just ain't true. This comment made the lightbulb go off. The people complaining here about this update ruining their fun in massive use of drugs, who say the game is "slowed down now" ... these are the people who play nothing but the mindless tank slaughterhouse games on Ploy CP, Noise, etc. These are the mindless games where players just spawn and die and the battle fund goes up. These are the games that skew performance date leading to all the F'ed up re-balances we've seen. Anything that undermines the dominance of mindless tank slaughterhouse games gets my support. I have come off the fence. Put me down as a "YES" vote for this experiment.

You can speak for yourself but not for others. And even if you are right perhaps more new players might stick around than old players leaving. No one knows. Funny, this sounds lke you are trying to insult me. What I said is, it is very easy to use the Pro Pass to make more Crystals than if you do not have the Pro Pass. Players who cannot figure this out are Not Good At The Game or are "noobs" in Tanki jargon. If that applies to you or not I do not know. But it definitely applies to many players. FURTHERMORE I am not against teh use of Supplies. Wjhat I do not like is how the current system makes Tanki dumber and easier to play. The current system REDUCES the challenge of playing. I am one of those players who plays games for the challenge not to escape the challenge. And lastly...... Remember, it's the buyers that make the game possible. If it gets to the point that the buyers feel that they're not getting their monies worth out of the game, then that money goes elsewhere and the game dies for lack of funds. Believe me there are alternatives out there, I've been looking and have found some in case I have to switch. Just because you and I have paid some money that does not make us some sort of elite where our opinions count but no one else'd do. Take away the free players and i wonder how many people there would be to play against. If you want to switch, switch. No game lasts forever. Thre are aspects of Tanki I dislike greatly and at some point I will decinde to stop playing. But Tanki's owners are not going to kowkow you nor to me
-
OK I misunderstood. I thought you were reporting the new turret was superior, I didn't reply to say "you suck neener neener" but instead meant to show that level of performance happened before the change too. I agree Isida is not ruined and it doesn't suck. But it is, IMO, not as good as it was before the change. I do not understand why the turret was weakened when no one at all thought it overpowered. Sorry but I've never taken a screenshot of anything in Tanki. But the 400-500 exp points range in a (competitive, two good team) 15 min game is fairly common.
-
Tanki collects data from all games played. You've collected data from about 0.00001% of all games played. Don't pretend you know is spawn camping is up or down. Furthermore this system is new to everyone. No one knows how to use it best yet. These immediate-term impressions are unlikely to persist in the long-run. Any unbiased player will have an open mind at this point in time. Pro Passes are bought with crystals not money. Investing Crystals in a Pro Pass will earn you more than the buying cost during the course of a month. Well, it will for those players who are not noobs. If you complain about "having to buy" a Pro Pass then you should be equally pissed about "having to buy" your turret and hull ... unless you are still playing your m0/m0 Smoky/Hunter at Legend rank. I have spent money on this game. I've bought a couple weeks of Premium accounts .... those give me no edge in battle. Mostly I have bough Gold Boxes ... those give me no advantage in battle. If I cared about paints I might buy one of those. So no, not all buyers pay money to avoid relying upon their skills. Some people pay money just because a good game company deserves financial support - but they do not want to pay-to-win. Tanki offers such a way to give that support. Quoted in support of my response above.
-
Because spawn killing never happened before this change. What map was this? Siege map sucks because of the spawn spots ... far too many games end in a spawn-slaughter because everyone spawns in the same spot. A sniper on the edge can cover the entire area. But on a map like Kungur spawns are spread out over too large an area to dominate that way. I doubt the new system makes this better or worse.
-
Those games seem rather unexceptional. Obviously you play well as finished 1st on your team. But before the nerf this week I routinely had similar scors and often even higher. That you had a good game with the nerfed Isida does not mean the Isida is better now. You'd probably have done as well or better with the un-nerfed Isida. But there's no way to know. I run m2/Hornet/Isida 1LT now (different account) and nowadays I really don't look at the ranks before i enter a game. No one can have m3 gear unless they buy a kit at LTGeneral - and not everyone plans that well. So even when I was a 2LT I could enter a match evenly with Generals. At my level that's pretty much every game I can eneer. So rank is not really significant at this level. The more I play the nerfed Isida the more I know it has been nerfed. "Nerfed" does not mean "ruined" it means "It ain't as good as it was before". Make no mistake: Isida has been nerfed. Because why? I do not know.
-
That's not how the system works. If you die for any reason with time left on your cooldown, the cooldown is NOT reset. If players hide all the time they cannot pop 2,3,4 then they are acting as a mult. Teams with mults tend to fall behind. Teams that fall behind have players quit on the game. Mr. Hidey-Hole might some out of hiding to discover he's now in a 1 on 10 match. Good luck, hope 30 seconds of 2, 3, 4 turns the tide for ya.
-
Second impressions of the new system: I do think this had reduced the overall level of drugging. This might actually turn out to be an improvement. As of this moment I am encouraged. BUT Experience with the system is still very slight. It could still turn out for the worse. But today was pretty good. And the weekend lag seemed less today too. THAT I appreciate.
-
I do it all the time. Though it was easier before the Isida nerf this week. Isida and hornet is rock and roll baby.
-
That is entirely the case today. I ave not bought drugs but I have about 800 of each except RKs of which I have over 400. We do not know that. Hence the word "experiment". Sorry, I do not like playing on Polygon CP, Noise, Hill, and the other slaughterhouse maps. These games comprize about 80% of the Pro list. Of the other 20% some are Parkour and most of the rest have 0 to 2 players / side. And 95% of them have drugs turns on anyway... the slaugherhouses do ALWAYS. No one knows how players will adapt to this system. As BlackWasp said, this change is too big for players to adapt in just 48 hours. I do agree that players always find a way to use the system to their advantage .. but we ar eno there yet. As for blaming bad game-play on people who dislike Tanki's drug system ... this smacks a bit of blame-the-victim here. As the VLOG said the Supplies are so powerful their use predominates over skill. Some players play games to test their skill. I don't think these people are the culprits. I do really really like your imaginative idea on a new type of daily mission. That's an original thought worth Tanki's attention. See ya! It's easier to quit than it is to learn how to play the game well. By this comment you seem quite unskilled. Pure and utter BULLSTUFF. Drug-free battles are seen in les than 5% of the games ... good luck clicking on every Pro Battle on the list to find one. Then wait for 10-20 more players to also find that needle in the haystack. On a side note there's another problem with no-drug battles ... you cannot use mines. Mines are different from all other Supplies ... they are actually fun and add tactical complexity to the game. I'd love a mode with mines on and the others disabled. I am not anti-supplies I am anti-DD/DA mostly. The problem lies in ths simplistic doubling of damage and doubling of armor.

I like Bombard for the historical reference. (What else to expect from someone who took the name LittleWillie? ) I mean, the very act of shooting at stuff with artillery took its name from this cannon. FWIW.

I recently learned about durians. I want to try one of those. On the poll everything but Jack (never heard of them) bread (want to try these too) and dragon (this one new to me too).

Patch Update #441 - Changes to Isida, Hammer and Shaft, and other changes
LittleWillie replied to theFiringHand in News Archive
Well you are changing your description of the Twins change from, splash damage fixes a flaw, to, this will leave splash damage in place for a few low-level accounts. In my mind that is no fix to a problem which splash damage is said to address. If splash damage was really intended as a "fix" then there would be no alteration to get rid of it. Tanki cannot have it both ways. As fr your comments on Isida... math is math and rhetoric is rhetoric. Don't use words when numbers are required. Ans if you are going to use words use them correctly. Here's the math. DPS was boosted by 20%. So a tank that took 3 seconds to kill before takes 2.5 seconds to kill now. Uh... no... that does not "make all the difference in the world". It improves TTK by roughly 16%. 100% divided by 120% is about 84%. However energy consumption on attack is doubled. That means I can fire for 5 seconds not 10. 5 divided by 10 is one-half or 50%. So after this nerf my Isida does 120% DPS for 50% of the time. 120% times 50% equals 60%. The nerf means Isidas now have 60% of the damage / reload they had before. That matters. Before I could kill a tank in 5 seconds and still have 5 seconds of ammo. That's be enough to let me engage a 2nd tank id one was nearby. OR even more importantly I would have 5 seconds of healing time for allies. Now I will use up over 80% of my energy on that same kill thus leaving me with less than 2 seconds of healing time. To head off claims "that doesn't matter" know that this is (usually) the best way to help a teammate under attack my a flame or freeze. Help the teammate kill the attacker, then immediately heal the teammate to stop the afterburn or freeze. It uses less energy that way ... healing-per-second cannot keep up with Firebird's damage DPS. Previously self heal was 10%. You waved you semantic wand and reduced 10% to 0%. God I hate that sort of argumentation when I encounter it ... which is often on the internet. Well it was not "literally" 0% it was "literally" 10%. That means if I dumped 4000 pts of damage into enemies I "literally" got 400 HP points back. And to kill me the enemy "literally" had to reduce those 400 extra HP. Those are the litteral numbers. As for your claim that Tanki did not reduce the firing arc ... Tanki announced they were doing this. All have to say is yes, this was in fact done and yes, it is in fact very noticeable in game-play.
