    Perfectly balanced overdrive ?

What @Harry321 said is actually valid. Ares does have the advantage of being able to climb on top of other tanks more easily, and is harder to "shake off" once he's on top. I've already participated in some private events where golds were dropped, and I can tell you from personal experience that once you manage to climb on top of the other hulls (which is quite easy with Ares), you are basically guaranteed to get the gold. On the other hand, the hull is slow and difficult to manoeuvre, so getting to the gold box in the first place is often difficult and/or impossible.
  3. I assume the aim is to accelerate migration to HTML5, because having just 5% of players using Flash until the end if better than 50%. It will make the transition more smooth for everyone involved. Don't know how exactly, but that's the most likely reason.
  4. You can still hide. Outlines for enemy tanks only show when Hornet's OD is enabled. Whether or not that ability is too powerful is a question of internal game balance, not Flash vs HTML5. As for the red outline — I agree that it can be too OP sometimes. In some cases it completely ruins the ability to hide in bushes, for example.
  5. You won't change any of those things by playing in Flash instead of HTML5. In fact, like I said in my previous post, forcing developers to continue maintaining two separate versions of the game means that they have less time and resources to solve the other issues you mentioned.
  6. Because maintaining the Flash version of the game causes significant extra costs for the project and delays releases of new content. It hurts the project economically, which is why developers are becoming more and more persistent with moving players to HTML5. December is the official date stated by Adobe and various browsers. I believe that devs could even keep the Flash version working into 2021, but it would be impossible to use in browsers and extremely hard to maintain, so they will not do that. On the other hand, if everyone migrated to HTML5 today, devs could get rid of the outdated version and focus 100% of their effort on improving HTML5, instead of trying to maintain and troubleshoot two versions of the game in parallel. Maintaining a healthy variety of options is always a good thing. Might be a good idea to take a break and come back in a few months because by that time it's possible that many improvements and fixes would have been made in HTML5. Might be interesting, though the limited forum population doesn't reflect the general mass of Tanki users.
  7. I disagree. Outlines of tanks are extremely useful, particularly in case of Hornet's radar. On Flash you just see a single symbol showing that a tank is there. You can't even tell the distance, which quite often leads you to believe that an enemy is behind a corner when in fact they are on the other side of the map. On HTML5 you can see the exact position of the tank, how far away it is (based on size of the outline), the direction it's moving, and exactly what kind of tank it is. Even the normal red outline is useful, since it helps you see if you have enough elevation/depression in your turret to hit them from your current angle. It also helps in case of partially hidden enemies. I still remember the time a few weeks ago when I got a kill on an enemy on Stadium through one of those tiny gaps in the walls from the other side of the map with Railgun, only because I could see when my turret was aligned with their tank. There's other ways in which it can be useful, but I won't go into details. As for changing, after a while you can get used to doing it faster and without using your mouse: G for garage — E to scroll to modules — Del to remove your current protections — Q/E to scroll to modules — Space to equip — press Z to get back to battle. I will agree though that it's annoying to have the garage interface completely cover the battlefield, and there's a few other issues like the scrolling feature acting weird. However, in my case personally, the advantages of HTML5 outweigh the issues, which is why I've been using HTML5 for the past 4 months.
  8. That pop-up is not aimed at you. The very fact that you logged into the forum and are using it to post your opinions already means that you are more involved in this project and the community than, I'd guess, 90% of the players. The vast majority of people only log into their account to play some battles and complete missions. They don't care about having in-game friends, joining groups/clubs, doing eSports, or even following the V-logs and updates. Those are the people, who may not be aware about the situation with Flash, and who may be encouraged to switch to HTML5 after seeing it. Regardless, I don't see the point in protesting and boycotting HTML5 so relentlessly. This isn't a matter of choice or opinion, because Flash WILL be shut down within a few months, and at that point you will only have two options: move to HTML5 or quit the game. HTML5 will continue improving over time, but there obviously won't be any major changes (like adding an option for the old interface) that would instantly change your opinion about it. Yes, there are issues and design decisions you may not like — it is what it is. So if you want to continue playing Tanki, I would recommend trying HTML5 at least for short periods of time and gradually get used to it, so that you won't have to experience the sudden change when Flash becomes unavailable.

I don't know. Mostly just guessing.

It would be nice to have multiple skins, but on the other hand I totally understand why they'd abandon the idea. besides, in the end everyone ends up with the Mk7 skin anyway, or uses a special (XT/Prime/etc) skin instead. Having 4 default skins made sense when they didn't require so much effort to make, and when devs had time and resources to spare.
  12. Maf

    Ares

Good question. I can only speculate in that regard, but it's possible that Ares won't have separate skins for each modification.

    Ares

The two skins currently added (standard and XT) are both technically of the Ultra type - moving parts, more details, more polygons. I assume all new turrets and hulls will have such skins by default in the future, and I assume that eventually the old skins will be removed completely, or upgraded to Ultra free of charge (though this is unlikely). However, this does mean that the skin requires 10x more effort to design since it's now a detailed 3D model, rather than a basic one with flat faces and no more than 20 polygons. For this reason, devs decided to start by releasing just one default high quality skin for all modifications, rather than trying to make 4 in the same time.
  14. If you're posting images, make sure they are relevant to the topic you are posting them in. If you just want to share a random battle result, it's not appropriate to post it in the Ares thread and say "I saw many Ares players in that battle" — that's not enough. If you're posting large images, it's better to put them in a spoiler or reduce their size so that they don't take up too much space on the screen for other players. And I'm not sure what the deal is with the big green text you posted a couple times as an image. It was unnecessary because you could just type the same text normally. Posting it like that is considered spam and may be removed.

You should try it with mouse. It feels really natural and I'd say it actually becomes more agile than the other heavy hulls. I use mouse with Ares and really like it, despite pretty much never using mouse controls before. The only annoying thing is that using WASD makes it harder to use supplies.

    Ares

They said a while ago that the controls have been changed. You can now turn the turret either with mouse using mouse controls, or with keyboard like a normal tank, but only if you disable mouse controls in settings. If you have mouse controls enabled and try to use keyboard only, you will not be able to turn the turret.

I love its overdrive. I think it's really interesting, and quite possibly OP. You just have to know when to use it. Make sure you're level and stationary, and fire at a group of teammates/enemies while also making sure it covers the greatest distance on the map. That way you have a chance to get some random kills down the line, which I did multiple times yesterday. One of the most powerful strategies is using the OD as a mobile healing station when attacking or escaping the enemy base. The best example I could think of is Parma or Desert RGB — take the ball, aim at the other end of the map, fire the OD and just drive in a straight line, keeping up with your own OD ball (Ares Mk8 with speed boost has more than enough speed to do that). With 500 hp/tick constant healing, the only way you can die is if you get one-shot. So you just drive along, killing everyone in your way, and easily score a goal. The explosion self-damage is fine — it forces you to be more aware of the ball's position, and more careful about where you use the OD. In fact, I think it should even get a nerf where the ball has limited damage/healing potential and/or doesn't heal the Ares that activated it. If you think about it, Ares OD (BFG) is similar to Mammoth (AT-field) in its mechanics: Both of them heal you Both of them are a close range high damage attack Both are mobile Both have similar charging rates (I think) But BFG provides constant, unlimited healing (like the old repair kit on steroids), whereas AT-field is a one-time full heal BFG can heal an unlimited amount of other teammates BFG is a ranged weapon, whereas AT-field requires the player to put themselves in a dangerous position in order to get kills BFG makes a massive explosion upon impact with a prop BFG can last much longer than AT-field, possibly over a minute on long maps The only advantages of AT-field over BFG is that it gives the player a speed boost and the player can change direction while using it. IMHO it definitely deserves a nerf, but it will likely stay as it is if the hull doesn't get popular due to its unique controls. By the way, BFG also gets a massive advantage from the bug (or feature?) where you keep some OD charge if you die right after activating it. I've had multiple instances where I fire the BFG moments before I get killed, and end up with over 80% charge remaining, ready to fire another one 30 seconds later. Same thing can be done with Wasp, though I noticed it's much harder, and Wasp bomb isn't all that useful compared to BFG.

Spent some time playing around with Ares:
  19. Both issues you described are completely valid, and we already informed developers about them in previous reports. Nonetheless, I'll forward your topic to them as well. Hopefully those will get fixed, because the slow response of UI and some of the layout issues get really annoying, especially for someone who just came from Flash.
  20. Well that was a fun event. Completed all the special missions (took over 10 hours), got my 15 ULTRA containers! Here's the rewards ?
  21. After over 10 hours of grinding, and effectively wasting away 100 gold supplies I spent a year saving up, here's the rewards I got from my 15 ultra containers: Totally worth it.
  22. I have no idea why this contest exists. Us real tankers never leave the comfort of our homes!
  23. Pepperidge farm remembers
  24. It got a buff, then two nerfs. Remember how the very first iteration gave like 400% bonus armour but only for 5 seconds? No one used that and preferred Booster instead, for obvious reasons. But then it was changed to like 200% for 20 seconds, then reduced to 15 seconds, and recently bumped to 30 seconds with a nerf to defence.
  25. Not sure. Maybe the status effect icon disappeared too early.
