This was my first sign of something seriously amiss (end of September): servers would show empty or not load the battles. Then the ping spikes, and the freezes. Unfortunately, no one recognized all the symptoms as being server-related until it affected a huge number of players. I think we need more pro-active programming (such as maintaining test accounts far away from the server base) to adequately investigate any unusual behaviors before they impede everyone.

No, there is definitely a hack: when a player is easily killable in one game, and in the next you do 600 damage and he's still unfazed. Tanki says there is no hack, which means it exists. Or did. I haven't seen many unkillables since late August.

There are hundreds of casual players who feel the same way. When it reaches the point where only cheaters and scum do well, maybe it is time to chuck Tanki for good.

Yup. The SAME GROUP OF PLAYERS arrived at the halfway point of Berlin 4 times, to take the battle fund. You know who I'm talking about. I will just say that they are scurrilous scum and be done with it. You can see them planting bogus players on the opposing teams. If I hadn't been pinged out, I would have mopped them up. :angry:

We believe you. It is affecting a large majority of the players, and apparently being investigated in earnest. Symptoms are freezing up, high ping spikes, and rapid CPU activity. No browsers appear exempt.

Ummph. Down to less than 8000 players when the Russians are asleep (4 AM Moscow time). That can't be good.

There's the solution...when he's not looking, steal his computer to play Tanki on. Your mention of Windows 10 does bring up possibilities: what if the code being written for changes is using a different translation than the rest of us (mostly windows 7 and 8). Windows 10 has been stripped to the bone, and might not have the subroutines that cause the problem. Personally, I am about 7 months from migration to a Windows 10 PC. (still have to arrange several dozen programs)

I suspect I might have been seeing a different aspect of the same problem. I just happened to be BETWEEN battles when it hit the server. I hate to say it, but you should look closely at weird situations because they are going to bite you eventually if ignored. http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=288517

Yes, when the lags occur, there is a SPIKE in my CPU activity much higher than normal, and my network feed drops by 80%. Perhaps it is the result of some problem that sends information in a repeated or looped manner, so that you can't get a good static refresh of the battle scenario.

That pretty much sums it up: it happens during a battle, at some point when many players are active. It is not a function of the individual's browser. I have been experiencing it since September 20, and everyone is telling me it's my problem...now it is Tanki's problem! There are several videos that were submitted that clearly shows it happening -- there is no warning, no common thread of circumstance...it just happens and you can't function well at all. Fortunately, it has only affected me in about 1/3 of my battles.

What I did. The EN servers still give (me) the "ping bug" (Ping jumps up high for short periods, then goes back down) but function okay otherwise. RU6 still buggy, now opens half the time, with a severe drop in players from last hour. So maybe it's not just me. RU3 opens but I get a really bad frame rate right now, typical for a busy load and my particular connections.

Welp. I discovered the problem. Some of the RU's show as open, but do not respond to my browser...browsers, plural. So either they are too busy, and just don't show as red, or something is scrambling my connection request. I was finally able to coax one (RU5) into telling me "SERVER CONNECTION FAILED" after pinging away for 4.5 minutes... So nothing I do is going to solve the problem. There is no problem with any of the EN servers I have tried. I'll have to wait until traffic slows on the full-showing RU servers to see if they exhibit the same behavior.

What happened was that 2 servers, RU5 and RU 6 (not full) showed games running. I left for another server, which locked up and took 4 minutes just to let me EXIT the battle. When I went back to RU5 and RU6, and there not only were no battles, but no CREATE button. All parameters (frame rate, ping, etc.) were nominal, and the Garage worked perfectly. So it wasn't a server "connection". Some sort of odd failure to get the servers to respond with data. Which was mirrored by the Forum (one edit vanished, then returned). I think I have narrowed this down, but it will take another hour at least. I did see the "use another browser" which for most players is a rather off-putting request. Most people just use one for everything. In my experience, it is either 1 or the other, and I haven't used my other 2 browser programs in 6 months (too slow, too buggy for tanki).

No. Duh. My post was just gone, then back again without me doing anything. There are 6 battles running there. I was just there 10 minutes earlier. I just couldn't get the server to show me. I think the lines may be overloaded. I usually don't see this many FULL servers. UPDATE: there is no CREATE button on the servers that show empty. So there *is* a problem... I'm going to clear my cache and work back in through some of the different EN battles and see if the problem resolves itself.

Hmm. My post above keeps disappearing when I try to edit it, and I cannot even get a battle list from RU5 and RU6. Another glitch?? Not sure if the server issue is connected to the full status of RU1 to RU4, but "open" servers are still not giving a battle list.

Some kind of glitch on the servers about 15:30 UTC (10:30 local) October 1 - server connections in the RU3 server kept going out. Then I couldn't leave. When I tried to log onto the Forum, that failed as well. Hmm. Couldn't edit this for nearly 5 minutes (see post below).

An intermittent SERVER PROBLEM : servers RU1 and RU2 have been disappearing at odd times (not just full, but gone). A possibly related problem: my connection to EN servers is fine, but when I select a RU server, there is sometimes no response: no battles display, or if they do, changing from one battle viewed to another takes minutes, not seconds. This happens concurrently with a massive PING increase as I am playing: first minutes fine, then Ping starts creeping up until I can't function...and get the "server connection problem" (which I strongly believe is NOT related to my connection or my computer...as evidenced by the unaffected good functioning on the EN servers). Since both these situations are NEW (within the last week), it suggests that some problem with servers or connection lines is to blame.

Well, it might be underpowered now, but the range is too long. Isida as a MEDIUM RANGE? Give me a break -- just another way to suck up crystals for those who want to MU its range ridiculously. The problem on DM is that Isidas *do not get all their kill credits* -- as Isida, I lose at least 30% of my kills to a "chance" hit by Thunder or Smoky, which finishes the tank off. As Hammer, I can follow the Isida around and STEAL all of his kills with a properly timed shot. Of course, in DM, a kill is everything, and they are stolen constantly...the only "sure" DM kill is one by a Rail or a Shaft, which is so fatal that you overpower anybody except maybe a Firebird who has the guy "red hot and cooked" already.

Nope. All of those occurred to me. I can't get a cablemodem drop, as it is either ON (connected) or OFF -- and I can't miss that. :( The fact that it only occurred during that one period suggests that someone was fiddling with the server connections, maybe for maintenance. If my computer functions normally 99% of the battle, it is unlikely to be in the PC. NEW THIS WEEK - Freeze Frame One weird thing that comes and goes is a variation of the old "stop, then speed up" that is usually blamed on lag. In this new bug, my frame rate says everything is fine, but I go into "stop motion" with moving snippets taken at 3 to 5 second intervals, like a strobe. I can only function for about 2 seconds each time the scene appears, then it freezes and skips another 3 seconds.

What would be really nice (and I guess belongs in the thread of "Things That Will Never Ever Happen") would be if you could get those XT lookers and MOVE YOUR FULL MU UPGRADES TO THEM from your standard equipment. Otherwise, I spend 300,000 crystals to get what I already have. :huh:

Server Problem RU2?? Bad glitch this AM (4 to 6 AM UTC) - THREE TIMES IN ONE HOUR the "server connection closed" popped up. No problems with the battle, no lag, no ping...just suddenly thrown off the server (RU2 in all three cases).

It does seem unusual that the devs could not even appreciate the difference between scoring on a 1 CP battle and a 7 CP battle. Does this mean they are out of touch with their own game? Or so preoccupied with other aspects that they issue updates without the slightest consideration of the mistakes they are making? I dunno. Does not bode well for any future policy decisions. -
